Billie Eilish’s ‘Everybody Dies’ is sad song on True Detective S4 Ep 4 as Julia walks into the frozen night

Julia walks naked into the frozen night beautifully accompanied by Billie Eilish

That incredibly sad song playing on the new season of True DetectiveTrue Detective, Season 4, Episode 4, “Night Country” –as Julia takes off her clothes and walks naked into the frozen night is Billie Eilish’s ‘Everybody Dies‘.

It is a perfect accompaniment to that scene as Julia knows, with the intense cold she is walking into, there is no way she will survive it.

And she is resigned to that fact.

When was Billie Eilish’s ‘Everybody Dies‘ released?

Like many of the American singer/songwriter’s most popular and most emotional songs, ‘Everybody Dies‘ is one of the tracks from her sophomore studio album Happier Than Ever.

The album came out in late July, 2021 on the Interscope Records and Darkroom labels and, while it wasn’t one of the seven singles released from the album, it is still one of Happier Than Ever‘s stand out tracks.

The somber almost torch song and its lyrics, of course, talk about that uncomfortable fact most of us don’t want to talk about or accept — everybody dies.

And, one day, we will too.

Something Eilish does not actually seem too sad about because, as she points out, if you became immortal, it would be like a living hell, as everyone you know would still die while you stayed alive forever.

“Everybody dies,” that’s what they say
And maybe, in a couple hundred years, they’ll find another way
I just wonder why you’d wanna stay
If everybody goes
You’d still be alone

Listen to Billie Eilish’s ‘Everybody Dies‘ as heard on True Detective this week, in the video and via Eilish’s Happier Than Ever album on Spotify.

It is one of two songs the American singer had featured on the latest True Detective episode, as her track bury a friend is also the drama’s theme song this season.

Watch the latest season of True Detective on HBO Max.
