Counting Crows’ debut single ‘Mr. Jones‘ was one of the songs played on the soundtrack of the new animated Netflix series This World Can’t Tear Me Down today — This World Can’t Tear Me Down, Season 1, Episode 1, “Quel che è di Cesare“.

The track played on the episode as Zero and his friends are going for ice cream.

Counting Crows’ ‘Mr. Jones‘ came out in December, 1993 as the indie rock band’s first single from their debut studio album August and Everything After.

It quickly went on to become a surprise hit for the relatively new American band.

Counting Crows’ ‘Mr. Jones‘ on the charts

The track charted at in the Top 5 on five different American charts, as well as at #25 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart.

Outside the U.S., ‘Mr. Jones‘ was just as successful.

The song charted in 11 countries including the United Kingdom, with a #1 placing on a Canadian music chart, and in the Top 20 in three other countries.

Nowadays, 30 years after it first came out, ‘Mr. Jones‘ is still thought of as one of the best songs Counting Crows ever released.

The song itself is about struggling musicians and their obsession with becoming famous and successful.

After all, they believe when that happens, everything about their lives will be better including that they will never feel lonely because millions of people will love them.

Naive at best, eh?
