Listen to Dion’s ‘The Wanderer’ from Awareness opening as Ian and his father steal booze

Dion’s ‘The Wanderer‘ is the first song played on the Amazon Prime Video film Awareness

The Amazon Prime Spanish-American sci-fi film Awareness was released late last week, and is another new film on the streaming platform getting pretty bad reviews (currently 4.9 out of 10 by critics, and 2.8 out of 5 from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes).

Not surprising really as the film, while with a fascinating premise, is far more complicated than it needed to be and, thus, not that fun.

That being said, the Awareness soundtrack is pretty decent in spots, with several interesting tracks featured including that classic song playing at the beginning of the film as Ian and Vicente are heading into town to steal some booze — Dion’s ‘The Wanderer’.

The track continues playing while the shopkeeper realizes several bottles of alcohol has been stolen, and right up to when Ian “shoots” her.

When did Dion’s ‘The Wanderer‘ first come out?

The now more than 60-year-old song was first released by Dion in 1961 on his first solo album Runaround Sue, which came out on the Laurie record label.

It is a song about a man who travels around the country and, with his many “loves”, is more than just a bit of a philanderer.

The Wanderer‘ was released as the B-side to Dion’s song ‘The Majestic‘ but, as radio DJs all over America preferred ‘The Wanderer‘, that was the song that was invariably played on air and the one that became the big hit for the then-young singer.

It then hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, and #3 on the Cashbox Top 100 in the U.S., #1 in Australia, #2 in New Zealand, #6 in Canada and #10 on the UK’s Singles chart.

Listen to Dion’s ‘The Wanderer‘ as heard at the beginning of the new Amazon Original film Awareness this week, both in the video and via the singer’s Runaround Sue album on Spotify.

The Amazon Original film Awareness is now streaming on the entertainment platform.
