Listen to Dusty Springfield’s ‘Son of a Preacher Man’ from 9-1-1: Lone Star, Season 4, Ep. 2

The late English singer Dusty Springfield’s ‘Son of a Preacher Man‘ was played on 9-1-1: Lone Star last night — 9-1-1: Lone Star, Season 4, Episode 2, “The New Hot Mess“.

It was heard as Trevor and Tommy are kissing.

Dusty Springfield’s ‘Son of a Preacher Man‘ was released in late 1968 as a single from her fifth studio album Dusty in Memphis.

The song went on to become one of Springfield’s biggest hits, charting at #1 on the singles chart in Singapore, and in the Top 10 in six other countries including in the United Kingdom.

In the United States, ‘Son of a Preacher Man‘ hit #10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and became one of Dusty Springfield‘s most popular songs in that country.

Over 25 years later, the song received a second lease on life when it was used by Quentin Tarrantino in a scene from his smash-hit film Pulp Fiction.

That usage helped the soundtrack of the film sell over two million copies, and introduced the song to a new generation of music lovers.

Nowadays the track is still going strong on streaming services, with almost 390 million plays on Spotify alone.

Springfield herself sadly died in early 1999 at the age of just 59-years-old from cancer.
