Listen to Ed Sheeran’s ‘A Beautiful Game’ from Ted Lasso S3 E12 from Beard’s motivation video

As Ted Lasso headed towards the end of its series finale episode today, a lovely and quite touching Ed Sheeran song (especially for football fans) was played on the show.

This time as the coaches show the Richmond team the video they have put together commemorating how far they have come.

Of course, that video makes the entire team tear-up, leading commentators to wonder if it is a good strategy to be blubbering during the line-up before the match even begins.

The song is called ‘Beautiful Game‘ by Ed Sheeran and, of course, is a nod to the term football fans have used to describe the world’s most popular sport since at least the 1950s.

Interesting then that the folks at Ted Lasso got who is probably the most famous English singer at the moment, Ed Sheeran, to record a song to both commemorate the amazing game and to (possibly) hint that this may not quite be the last we see of our favorite football folks:

Though we’ve not reached the end
We should take some time apart
Leave here with no regrets
Knowing we gave our all
Oh, I cannot pretend
That this won’t break our hearts
But we will meet again

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Beautiful Game‘ was released at midnight last night, with Sheeran himself letting fans know the song was out via his Instagram account:

A Beautiful Game, written and recorded for the final episode of Ted Lasso, out tonight x.

The song also has an audio video that was uploaded to Sheeran’s YouTube account around the same time.

Listen to Ed Sheeran’s ‘A Beautiful Game‘ as heard on Ted Lasso today in that video below, and on the Spotify player.

Yep, along with the often touching human drama and superb football plot, the Apple TV+ drama has featured some hellish good tracks on its three seasons, eh?
