Listen to Elton John/Britney Spears’ ‘Hold Me Closer’ from And Just Like That… S2 E1

As unfortunate as it seems as, Ye Gods, the first season of the series was the worst thing released in eons, the HBO Max series And Just Like That… is now back for a second season.

Along with the self-involved-ness of just about every awful character in the “woker than woke” series, we do at least get some recognizable and somewhat decent music on each episode’s soundtrack.

Songs like Elton John and Britney Spears’ ‘Hold Me Closer‘, which was played during the opening of the first episode’s opening scenes — And Just Like That..., Season 2, Episode 1, “Meet Cute“.

Elton John and Britney Spears create an odd John-heavy and Spears-light track

Elton John and Britney Spears’ ‘Hold Me Closer‘was released in August, 2022 and is a strange thing, as it incorporates elements of Elton John’s previous hits ‘Tiny Dancer‘, ‘The One‘ and ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart‘ all pushed together into a new dance pop track.

A track that is just a remix of songs you have heard before and with somewhat whispy, ethereal vocals that are Elton John heavy and Britney Spears light.

Yep, you can hear Britney hardly at all, which is a shame as that girl can belt out a helluva song.

It isn’t a bad song. In fact, it is catchy and addictive.

But I have to say I agree with one Daily Telegraph critic who called ‘Hold Me Closer‘ “One of the most pointless records in pop history” as, if I had never heard it, I certainly wouldn’t be lacking.

Of course, the song itself went on to become a massive worldwide hitting #1 in four countries, and the Top 10 in 19 of them.

Go figure, eh?
