Erykah Badu’s ‘…& On’ is song on Suncoast as Doris walks through the protesters listening on her headphones

The new Hulu movie Suncoast stood out to me the minute I began streaming it as, right from its first few minutes, the coming-of-age film features some stellar songs on its soundtrack.

Songs like Erykah Badu’s ‘…& On‘, which was heard on the film’s soundtrack as Doris leaves the hospice care facility, puts her headphones on and walks through the protesters demonstrating outside.

When was Erykah Badu’s ‘…& On‘ released?

‘…& On‘ was released as one of the tracks from the American soul, R&B and hip hop singer’s second studio album Mama’s Gun, which came out in November, 2000 via the Motown Records label.

It is a follow on to her song ‘On & On‘, which came out as the lead single from her debut album Baduizm, although ‘…& On‘ was not released as a single.

While Mama’s Gun was critically well-liked, it was not as commercial of a success for the singer as her first album, although it did chart in 14 countries, including Canada, Austria, Germany, Japan and the UK.

In the United States, Mama’s Gun hit #11 on the Billboard 200 and #3 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart, as well as ultimately being certified Platinum.

Some critics, however, mentioned Badu spent more time trying to be “sophisticated” with the album, thus falling short of actually producing songs with depth.

Listen to Erykah Badu’s ‘…& On‘ in the video, and via Spotify below, and make up your own mind about that.

Personally, I think the track is a sultry, smooth, cool piece of music that beautifully embodies Badu’s signature blend of neo-soul, jazz, and R&B elements.

It’s pretty hypnotic too.

Suncoast stars Nico Parker, Laura Linney and Woody Harrelson, and is currently streaming exclusively on Hulu.
