Listen to Florence + the Machine’s ‘Dream Girl Evil’ from Yellowjackets S2 E7 end credits – fabulous girl power track

Superstar British alternative rock baroque pop group Florence and the Machine’s ‘Dream Girl Evil‘ was that fabulous song playing over the Yellowjackets end credits this week — Yellowjackets, Season 2, Episode 7, “Burial“.

And, of course, it is the perfect song for the entire Yellowjackets series as the ‘Dream Girl Evil’ lyrics explore what it is like being a woman, and the double standards society always places on us.

Interestingly too, band frontswoman Florence Welch is a huge Yellowjackets fan, as she told the New York Times in an interview recently:

Yellowjackets appeals to me because of my fascination with all things culty, but also it portrays the violence of the hormonal shift of girlhood so well. I think there’s something about being a young woman that feels very murderous.

That’s what I was trying to get with a song like ‘Dream Girl Evil.’ It can be dangerous for people to think you’re incredibly nice. When you get, ‘You’re an angel,’ that seems like such a high place to fall from.

When I see messy or violent or terribly behaved women, especially young women, there’s a liberation. To not have to try and survive by being good.

When was Florence and the Machine’s ‘Dream Girl Evil‘ released?

The girl power song itself came out in May, 2022 on Florence and the Machine‘s fifth studio album Dance Fever, which was released on the Polydor label.

Dance Fever went on to become not only one of music critics’ most acclaimed albums that year, but also to be a big commercial success for the indie band.

The album charted at #1 on the UK Albums chart and the Scottish Albums chart, as well as at #1 in the United States on three charts — the Top Alternative Albums chart, the Top Tastemaker Albums chart and the Top Rock Albums chart.

Dance Fever also hit #7 on the Billboard 200.

The album ultimately spawned three singles, although Florence and the Machine’s ‘Dream Girl Evil‘ was not one of them (it should have been), with each single hitting charts in a number of different countries.

Listen to Florence and the Machine’s ‘Dream Girl Evil‘ as heard on the Yellowjackets end credits this week in the video, and on the band’s Dance Fever album.

There is also a phenomenal live performance Florence and the band gave on The Graham Norton Show late last year that is absolutely fabulous. You should definitely check that one out below as talk about immense power.

And, of course, you can listen to many more songs from Yellowjackets, and learn about the artists behind them, on Leo Sigh.

Season 2 of Yellowjackets is now streaming on Showtime, with the cable TV station already having greenlit it for a third season.
