Listen to Grimes’ ‘We Appreciate Power’ from Riverdale — “Chapter Fifty-Two: The Master”

Canadian synth-pop singer songwriter Grimes’ ‘We Appreciate Power‘ featuring HANA showed up on the new episode of Riverdale this week — Season 3, Episode 17, “Chapter Fifty-Two: The Master“.

The song was heard as Archie invites Mad Dog into the boxing ring, as the Serpents send reports back to Jughead about the Gargoyles’ conquest, and as Jughead accidentally gets in the way of his father’s sting operation.

Grimes’ ‘We Appreciate Power‘ is the first single from her fifth studio album, and is a far more rock and more industrial sound than we are used to getting from Grimes.

The album itself is called Miss Anthropocene, and is due for release sometime in 2019,

We Appreciate Power‘ also has an interesting story behind its creation because, according to Grimes, the track is inspired by the all-female North Korean group The Moranbong Band.

Known in the west as the ‘North Korean Spice Girls’, The Moranbong Band members were hand-picked by the country’s supreme leader Kim Jong-un. They are, however, high-ranking military officials as well as singers, so are actually a military orchestra and not a pop band.
