Listen to ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’ from Ted Lasso S03 E04 as West Ham fans sing as teams enter stadium

If you are not a fan of British football, and in particular the West Ham United football club, you may not know that the club’s anthem is an American song from the early 20th century called ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles‘.

That song was sung by the West Ham United fans in the stands during today’s Ted Lasso episode as both teams walk onto the pitch — Ted Lasso, Season 3, Episode 4, “Big Week“.

A sound any West Ham fan, or any fan of a team that has played against them over the last almost 100 years, is very familiar with hearing.

Hell, I used to sing the song when I was a kid, it was that famous in the UK, and I don’t ever watch football.

I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles‘ was first released in 1919 by American big band Ben Selvin’s Novelty Orchestra, for whom it became a big hit.

It became a hit in the United Kingdom soon after as it was performed by a number of stars of the music hall form of entertainment.

It is thought West Ham United fans then began singing the song at football matches in the early 1940s.

‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles’ has since gone on to become one of the most-recognized British football anthems.

Listen to ‘I’m Forever Blowing Bubbles‘ as sung by the crowd on Ted Lasso, Season 3, Episode 4 in the video of West Ham fans singing the song at London’s Wembley Stadium over a decade ago, and on the Spotify player.

Yep, it’s a damn cool song.
