Listen to Kiss’ ‘Detroit Rock City’ from Stranger Things, Season 4, Ep. 1 – basketball and a D&D campaign

American hard rock band Kiss’s ‘Detroit Rock City‘ is one of a slew of songs featured on the first episode of the new season of Stranger Things this week — Stranger Things, Season 4, Episode 1, “Chapter One: The Hellfire Club“.

The song was played during the basketball game scenes, and while the Dungeons and Dragons campaign is going on.

Kiss’s ‘Detroit Rock City‘ was released as the third single from the band’s fourth studio album Destroyer, which came out in 1976.

Weirdly, the single was not a success for the band at the time of its release, and did not even chart in the United States or anywhere else.

And I say ‘weirdly’ as, after its release, ‘Detroit Rock City‘ became hugely popular with Kiss fans. So much so, nowadays the track is thought of as one of the iconic band’s signature songs.

As for their Destroyer album, it was a success where the single was not.

That album charted in eight countries, climbed high up three charts in the United States, including the Billboard 200 chart (#11), and made it to #4 on the Swedish Albums chart.

Destroyer has since appeared on many critics’ lists as one of the best heavy metal albums of all time.
