The now defunct American hip hop group N.W.A.’s ‘Express Yourself‘ was played on the new season of The Boys last night — The Boys, Season 3, Episode 3, “Barbary Coast“.

The track was heard playing at The Boys’ headquarters.

N.W.A.’s ‘Express Yourself‘ was released in 1988 as the last single from the group’s debut studio album Straight Outta Compton.

An album that came out on the Ruthless and Priority record labels and was very successful for the hip hop group.

The track charted at #2 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart, as well as charting in the UK and Australia.

It has since had several cool cover versions recorded by people like Labrinth, Tim Armstrong and the South Carolina based punk band Stretch Arm Strong.

Express Yourself‘ is somewhat of a depiction of blacks in American history, as it begins with scenes of slavery.

It then moves into blacks in the ghetto, onto black youth in prison, and then to then-N.W.A. member Dr. Dre as President of the United States.

It ends with Dr. Dre being executed in the electric chair.

Listen to N.W.A.’s ‘Express Yourself‘ as heard on The Boys in that video, and on the group’s Straight Outta Compton album.
