Nick Lowe’s ‘The Beast In Me‘ was featured on Get Shorty
English singer songwriter Nick Lowe’s poignant ‘The Beast In Me‘ was featured on the latest episode of the Epix show Get Shorty last night — Season 2, Episode 6, “Unlimited“.
The track was played during the ending credits.
Nick Lowe originally wrote ‘The Beast In Me‘ for his former-father-in-law Johnny Cash. Cash eventually released the song on his 1994 album American Recordings.
Lowe himself recorded the track a few months later for his album The Impossible Bird. The song then languished for a few years in relative obscurity until it was chosen as the music over the closing credits of the first episode of the hit series The Sopranos.Â
From then on, it was a song that was identified with Tony Soprano for the rest of the series, and even helped remind viewers of his sometimes hidden humanity.
Nick Lowe re-released ‘The Beast In Me‘ for his massive 2009 49-track double compilation album Quiet Please… The New Best of Nick Lowe. He also released a live version of the song on his 2004 album Untouched Takeaway.
