Listen to Nina Simone’s ‘I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free’ from The Terror: Infamy, Season 2, Ep. 10

The Terror: Infamy continues featuring superb music, this time with an iconic Nina Simone track

American singer songwriter and icon Nina Simone’s ‘I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free‘ was featured in the season finale of the AMC horror drama The Terror: Infamy last night — The Terror: Infamy, Season 2, Episode 10, “Into the Afterlife“.

The song was played over the last couple of scenes of the episode.

The iconic Nina Simone song ‘I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free‘, while long associated with Simone, also has an interesting back story of its own.

Written by jazz pianist Billy Taylor, the song was originally an instrumental piece.

Lyrics were added later by Dick Dallas, and it is that version Nina Simone sang for her album Silk and Soul, which was released in 1967.

At the time of its release, the song was associated with the civil rights movement as an expression of how every person regardless of their skin color just wanted to know what it was like to be free.

Later on after Simone’s death in 2003, however, and after a biography published in 2004 revealed her bipolar disorder diagnosis, fans also began to associate it with Simone’s struggle with anxiety and depression.
