Listen to Norah Jones’ ‘White Christmas’ from Virgin River S5 E12 as Mel and Jack arrive at her father’s cabin

As it gets earlier and earlier for Christmas storylines to be featured on American TV series every year, we now have Virgin River with its most recent episodes centering around the Christian holiday.

Not that it bothers me that much, as we do get to hear Christmas music on their soundtracks, and songs often sung by artists whose versions of those songs we may not have been too familiar with before.

Take Norah Jones’ ‘White Christmas‘, for instance, the Christmas song that showed up during the opening scenes of Virgin River, Season 5, Episode 12, “Father Christmas” this week.

That song was played right at the beginning of the episode as the camera pans over the gorgeous countryside, and as Mel and Jack show up at the door of Mel’s father’s cabin.

When did Norah Jones record her version of ‘White Christmas‘?

The song was recorded by the American pop jazz singer for her 2021 album I Dream of Christmas, which came out on the Blue Note record label in October of that year.

It was Norah Jones‘ first Christmas album, as well as the singer’s eighth studio album.

I Dream of Christmas went on to chart in 12 countries, including on three charts in the United States — #4 on the Top Holiday Albums chart and the Top Jazz Albums chart, and #100 on the Billboard 200 chart.

White Christmas‘, of course, was originally written by Irving Berlin for the 1942 Christmas-themed film Holiday Inn starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, which almost immediately made ‘White Christmas‘ a holiday classic we have listened to every Christmas since.

You can also listen to it via Spotify on her I Dream of Christmas album below as well.

Meanwhile, the most recent three episodes of Virgin River are now streaming on Netflix.
