OMD’s ‘If You Leave‘ marvelously shows up on Family Guy
Anyone who grew up in the 1980s knows the Orchestra Manoeuvres in the Dark song ‘If You Leave‘, because in our minds it will forever be associated with Molly Ringwald looking stunning in that pink dress in the final scenes of the hit teen movie Pretty in Pink.
A movie that catapulted the British electronic band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (aka OMD) to fame in the U.S.
It also gave the band a hit song in the U.S., UK, South Africa, New Zealand, Canada and Australia.
Something quite astounding, as the band wrote and recorded the song in under 24 hours, after Pretty in Pink director John Hughes decided he wanted a different OMD song for the film’s last scenes.
This week, Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s ‘If You Leave‘ marvelously showed up on the soundtrack of Family Guy — Family Guy, Season 20, Episode 19, “First Blood“.
The song played as Peter is at the dance, and as the cattle are choosing their own partners.
Since its release, ‘If You Leave‘ has also become OMD’s signature song.
