Listen to Paula Cole’s ‘I Don’t Want to Wait’ from Beef, S01 E06 – yep, it’s the Dawson Creek theme

The soundtrack of the new Netflix comedy drama Beef features superb songs on each episode, including American pop rock singer Paula Cole’s ‘I Don’t Want to Wait‘.

That track was heard playing very quietly in the background as Mia and George are in the car and decide not to talk anymore — Beef, Season 1, Episode 6, “We Draw a Magic Circle“.

The slow rock track was originally released as the second single from Cole’s sophomore studio album This Fire in October, 1996 and went on to hit the #11 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

And while the song is a cool track on its own, for most people who watched teen dramas back in the late 1990s they will recognize ‘I Don’t Want to Wait‘ as the official theme song for the hit North Carolina-based drama Dawson’s Creek.

The version of Paula Cole’s ‘I Don’t Want to Wait‘ that was played on the episode though was an updated version of the track called the Artist’s 20th Anniversary Edition.

This version came out in 2016 on her album This Bright Red Feeling (Live in New York City).

It is an interesting more modern version although, if I am honest, I still prefer the original as it seems to have a little more weight.

Still, either way, it is a damn stellar song.

Listen to Paula Cole’s ‘I Don’t Want to Wait‘ (Artist’s 20th Anniversary Edition) as played on Episode 6 of Beef (if you have good ears) in the video, and on Cole’s This Bright Red Feeling (Live in New York City) album.
