The season finale of the Showtime comedy I Love That For You last night not only ended satisfactorily, but it also featured a couple of exceptionally good songs on its soundtrack.
One of them, Phil Collins’ ‘Against All Odds‘ (which showed up on I Love That For You, Season 1, Episode 8, “Shop Cancer’s Ass’) was particularly cool for me, as that song above many others perfectly illustrates one summer during my university years.
That is because ‘Against All Odds‘ was the theme song of the 1984 movie of the same name.
A film that starred Rachel Ward, an actress who I thought was so beautiful, I had her hair cut from the movie for a year afterward.
And a movie I watched at the movie theater three times in a week, I loved it so much.
So, yep, I played that power ballad on-air as part of my radio DJ stint a lot.
Phil Collins’ ‘Against All Odds‘ (full title ‘Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)‘) was also one of the big hits of that year.
The song charted in 19 countries, and was especially successful in Israel, Ireland, Canada, Portugal and Norway, where it hit the #1 spot.
The track also landed at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and eventually went on to become one of Collins’ signature songs.
Listen to Phil Collins’ ‘Against All Odds‘ as heard on I Love That For You in the song’s official video, and on the Phil Collins The Singles album.
