Listen to Shannon’s ‘Let The Music Play’ from The Deuce — 1980s electronic dance music at its best

Shannon’s ‘Let The Music Play‘ was featured on the hit HBO drama series The Deuce this week — The Deuce, Season 3, Episode 2, “Morta di Fame“.

The track was originally released in 1984 as the lead single from the Washington, D.C. native’s debut studio album of the same name.

Let The Music Play’ eventually peaked in the top spot on the U.S. Dance Club Songs chart, giving Shannon her first number 1 song. It also charted in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 list, and in the number 2 spot on the R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.

Since then the track has been named as one of the best dance pop songs of the 1980s, and is credited with inventing what is now known as freestyle music — a form of electronic dance music that became very popular in the 80s and 90s.
