For a very low-key indie folk, baroque pop singer songwriter, Sufjan Stevens‘ music sure shows up on a helluva lot of cool TV shows and movies.
Including his latest appearance on the soundtrack of the Hulu comedy drama The Bear, where Sufjan Stevens’ ‘Chicago‘ was played at the beginning of The Bear, Season 1, Episode 7, “Review” this week.
The song was one of the tracks from Stevens’ concept album Illinois, which came out in 2005 on the Asthmatic Kitty label.
It tells the story of a man taking a road trip around America, sometimes alone sometimes with a friend, and about the mistakes he/they made along the way
Sufjan Stevens’ ‘Chicago‘ was played on The Bear right at the beginning of Episode 7, and is announced as a song playing on a local radio station.
The track got a helluva promotion on the episode, as it plays for over 2 minutes as we see various places in Chicago, both in the present day and back in history, footage of the restaurant staff heading to work, and shots of other Chicago restaurants.
A song doesn’t often get a showcase like that on a popular TV show, eh?
Listen to Sufjan Stevens’ ‘Chicago‘ from The Bear on Stevens’ Illinois album, and in the video, along with a live performance he gave of ‘Chicago‘ six years ago down below.
