Listen to The Cardigans’ ‘Lovefool’ from Cruel Summer S2 E8 as Isabella pins Polaroid on the wall

Season 2 of Cruel Summer features superb performances and cool music

The teen drama Cruel Summer is one of the highlights of this season’s programming on Freeform, as it features great performances from all the lead actors, and a mystery that actually is a mystery.

Throw in the series was filmed in a gorgeous location (Richmond, British Columbia), and every episode so far has been pretty gripping.

The eighth episode of the series premiered today with all of that, plus the usual superb music on its soundtrack.

Songs like The Cardigans’ ‘Lovefool‘, which was the song playing on Cruel Summer, Season 2, Episode 8, “Confess Your Sins” towards the end of the episode as Isabella is pinning a Polaroid on the wall, and then looking at photos of her, Megan and Isabella.

When was The Cardigans’ ‘Lovefool‘ originally released?

Lovefool‘ came out as the band’s first single from their First Band on the Moon album in 1996.

The song became an international hit for the Swedish band when it was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Romeo + Juliet a few months later.

The track ranked high up charts in 14 countries, but saw its biggest commercial success in the United States where it hit an astounding eight different charts.

Those chart rankings included a #1 spot on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40, and a #2 on the Adult Top 40 chart.

Lovefool‘ also hit #2 on the UK Singles chart.

Interestingly too, The Cardigans’ ‘Lovefool’ has three different music videos, the first created for the European market, the second for the American market, and a third that came out after Romeo + Juliet released and the record company realized how popular the track had become.

Listen to The Cardigans’ ‘Lovefool’ in the second of those music videos below, along with the album track via Spotify.

And yes, almost 30 years since it came out, it is still a damned cool song. Something Spotify users obviously know as the song has almost 450 million streams on that platform alone.
