American singing group The Cowsills’ ‘The Rain, The Park and Other Things‘ was that pleasant song playing on Chucky, Season 3, Episode 3, “Jennifer’s Body” close to the beginning of the episode.
The track begins playing as the taxi driver tells Caroline and Chucky to get out of his cab as Chucky is creeping him out.
It continues playing as Chucky kills the taxi driver by shoving an umbrella down his throat, and ends as Chucky and Caroline leave the cab with its windshield covered in blood.
Yes, as per usual with Chucky, the scene is disgusting but the song lightened it just a little bit, eh?
The Cowsills’ ‘The Rain, The Park and Other Things‘ one of band’s biggest hits
While you might not be familiar with The Cowsills, as they had their biggest hits in the late 1960s, you should know they were the group that was the inspiration for the hit American TV show The Partridges.
They were, and still are, a family singing group that had great success in the late 1960s with several singles and a handful of albums.
The group is still performing today, although it has diminished from its once-seven members to just three — brothers and sister Bob, Paul and Susan, with other brother John occasionally performing with them.
‘The Rain, The Park and Other Things‘ was released by the family group The Cowsills in September, 1967 as a single from the band’s self-titled debut album.
The song became as surprise hit for the American singing group, charting at #1 on the Cash Box Top 100 and #2 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it would have hit the top spot if it wasn’t for the The Monkees’ ‘Daydream Believer‘ hogging that place for four weeks.
‘The Rain, The Park and Other Things‘ also charted in the Top 5 in Canada, New Zealand and Australia.
The song tells the story of a man seeing a flower girl sitting in the park in the rain but, after the rain stops, she disappears. He is left to wonder, was she real or was she only in his imagination?
Listen to The Cowsills’ ‘The Rain, The Park and Other Things‘ as heard on Chucky down below. It was an interesting choice of TV show for the group to license the song if nothing else.
The latest season of Chucky is now streaming via SYFY.
