Indie rock band The Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Today‘ was featured on the new episode of the sci-fi drama For All Mankind this week — For All Mankind, Season 3, Episode 2, “Game Changer“.
The song was first released on the band’s second studio album Siamese Dream.
An album that came out in 1993 on the Virgin Records label and went on to become an iconic indie rock album.
The track was released as the album’s second single, and was written by The Smashing Pumpkins‘ lead singer Billy Corgan.
The singer wrote the song while struggling with depression and suicidal thoughts, to the point that he considered committing suicide several times.
‘Today‘ charted at #3 on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart, and #4 on the U.S. Alternative Airplay chart.
It also hit the charts in Canada, the UK, New Zealand and Australia, and went on to become one of The Smashing Pumpkins’ signature songs.
The song’s music video is based around an ice cream seller, with the intro to the song being the song’s melody played in short bursts just like it would be coming from an ice cream van.
Listen to The Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Today‘ from last night’s For All Mankind in the track’s music video, and on the band’s hit album Siamese Dream.
