English post-punk synth-pop band The The’s ‘This Is The Day‘ was featured on the new hit Netflix drama series Sex Education this month — Season 1, Episode 3.
The track was played as we watch Jackson going through his morning routine, as Otis wakes up and as he rushes off to school.
The The’s ‘This Is The Day‘ is from the English band’s debut album Soul Mining, and has been featured on a number of movie soundtracks since — including Static, Empire Records, I Feel Pretty and the 2018 film Every Day. The song also showed up in an episode of the TV series The Good Doctor recently.
The track was released as a single in September, 1983, with the album Soul Mining releasing a month later. The song itself made it to number 73 on the UK’s singles chart, while the album hit number 27 on the UK album chart.
Interestingly too, the album Soul Mining only made the charts in four countries — the UK, Australia, Holland and New Zealand — and not in particularly high spots. It was also a relatively short album of only seven tracks, yet it appeared on the lists of a number of critics in later years as one of the best albums of the 1980s.
