I am always thrilled when I watch a TV show and hear one of my favorite songs from when I was a kid.
Songs like the American female vocal group The Three Degrees’ ‘When Will I See You Again‘, which was played on the new Idris Elba series Hijack on Apple TV Plus this week — Hijack, Season 1, Episode 2, “3 Degrees“.
Because, yep, that song was huge when I was a child, and was continually played on the radio during the entire summer of 1974.
It was the soul, R&B song, by the way, that was heard playing on the radio on Hijack as Alice is in the car driving her son to school.
The track was then played again over the end credits.
‘When Will I See You Again‘ hits #1 on two U.S. charts
The Three Degrees’ ‘When Will I See You Again‘ was released in June, 1974, and became a surprise international hit for the group.
In the United States, the song went on to hit #1 on the U.S. Cash Box 100 chart, and at #1 on the Billboard Easy Listening chart.
In the UK, ‘When Will I See You Again‘ also quickly climbed to #1 on the UK Singles chart, where it then sat for two weeks, as well as charted high in seven other countries.
Nowadays, the track is known as a somewhat signature song for the all-girl trio.
Listen to The Three Degrees’ ‘When Will I See You Again‘ as heard on the second episode of Hijack this week in the video.
You can also hear it on the group’s self-titled album via Spotify below, where it is the group’s most popular song with over 44 million streams so far.
