Listen to Timmy Thomas’s Why Can’t We Live Together from Big Little Lies, Season 2, Episode 4

The Big Little Lies soundtrack continues to excel in the music the Music Supervisor chooses for the hit HBO series. This week, it was R&B singer songwriter Timmy Thomas’s Why Can’t We Live Together that stood out on the show — Season 2, Episode 4, “She Knows” (June 30th, 2019).

The track was heard twice during the episode, with the first version the original song by Timmy Thomas, and the second a cover version of Why Can’t We Live Together that was recorded by Jim James.

Timmy Thomas’s Why Can’t We Live Together is from the singer’s debut studio album of the same name.

Released in 1972 on the now defunct Glades Records, it was the first ever album that did not use drummers but made full use of a drum machine instead.

Thomas’s Why Can’t We Live Together single, which starts out with that drum machine introduction, hit the top spot on the R&B chart in the US soon after release. The album made it to number 10 on the Billboard Top Soul Albums chart.
