Listen to Tom Petty’s ‘Runnin’ Down a Dream’ from Coyote, Season 1, Ep. 1 “Call of the Void”

Iconic American rocker Tom Petty’s ‘Runnin’ Down a Dream‘ was played on the first episode of the new crime drama series Coyote last night — Coyote, Season 1, Episode 1, “Call of the Void“.

A TV series that is well worth watching if, like me, you are a huge fan of the lead actor Michael Chiklis (The Shield) as, so far, it looks like he was made for the part of Ben Clemens.

Tom Petty’s ‘Runnin’ Down a Dream‘ was heard on the episode as we see Ben during his last day as a Border Patrol agent.

The song was the second single from Petty’s debut solo album Full Moon Fever, which was released in early 1989 via MCA Records.

The album was a superb release by Petty, considering it not only featured some of the singer songwriter’s best work, but also involved work from such luminaries as former Beatle George Harrison, Roy Orbison and ELO’s Jeff Lynne.

It was also a big hit for Petty, charting at #3 on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as high on the charts in the UK, Sweden, Norway, New Zealand, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada and Australia.

The song ‘Runnin’ Down the Dream‘ charted in five countries, including at #1 on the Billboard Album Rock Tracks in the U.S.

Tom Petty himself sadly died of an accidental drug overdose in his hometown of Santa Monica, California in 2017 at the still young age of just 66-years-old.

It was ruled he had died due to mixing various drugs he had been prescribed for pain because of a severe hip injury, drugs for insomnia, a number of opioids and an anti-depressant.

Listen to Tom Petty’s ‘Runnin’ Down a Dream‘ as heard at the beginning of last night’s episode of Coyote in the song’s official, and quite cool, animated music video below.

Petty’s album Full Moon Fever is also worth a listen in full.
