Listen to Witch’s ‘Living in the Past’ from Watchmen, Season 1, Episode 6

One of the most striking songs featured on the latest episode of the HBO series Watchmen is Witch’s ‘Living in the Past’, which was played on Watchmen, Season 1, Episode 6, “This Extraordinary Being” (November 24th, 2019). The track was heard over the end credits.

Witch’s ‘Living in the Past’ is from the band’s 2011 54-track album Witch: We Intend to Cause Havoc — the title of the album being taken from the band’s actual name — W.I.T.C.H. (We Intend To Cause Havoc).

Witch themselves have an interesting and quite unique past.

Founded in Zambia in the 1970s, once upon a time Witch was the country’s most popular ‘Zamrock’ band. But, after the Zambian economy collapsed and the government became incredibly repressive as a result, curfews were instituted.

This meant Witch could no longer play at night, so were relegated to appearing on daytime TV. Witch disbanded soon after but was resurrected a number of times with a variety of different music styles.

In 2012, however, lead singer Emanuel “Jagari” Chanda was invited to the U.S. to reform the band, which he did. Since then, new members from Europe have been added and Witch now spends most of their time touring.
