Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson’s ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)‘ cover features Sean Ono Lennon

New pop duo American singer Miley Cyrus and British music producer Mark Ronson were not content just to release their hit single ‘Nothing Breaks Like A Heart‘ this month, and then call it a day.

Instead, a second single popped up from the pair this week. A cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s 1971 hit ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)‘ that is powerful and absolutely rocking.

Along with those of Cyrus, the single features vocals from John and Yoko’s son Sean Ono Lennon, but it is Miley Cyrus’s vocals that steal the show.

That husky, sensual timbre in her voice, and the way she turns Lennon’s original ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)‘ from a sweet, touching almost-rock song protesting the Vietnam War to an actual rock song, with powerful, rich vocals and a typical Miley kick-ass attitude.

The Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson cover of ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ was performed live by them, along with Sean Ono Lennon, on Saturday Night Live last night.

On The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night, Cyrus talked to Fallon about the song –“We went to Electric Lady (recording studio) with Sean Ono Lennon and we got to cut ‘War is Over’. And so we’re also doing it on SNL – we want to do a Christmas song, and I don’t think anything could speak louder than what’s going on right now than about ‘War is Over.’”

Listen to Miley Cyrus and Mark Ronson’s ‘Happy Xmas (War Is Over)’ in the Spotify widget below, along with the original John Lennon and Yoko Ono version below that.

Now isn’t that a kick-ass modern version of a song that really has held up over the test of time?
