Sharon Van Etten’s ‘Pay My Debts’ Featured on ‘Suits’

Sharon van etten I don't want to let you down

Sharon Van Etten’s ‘Pay My Debts‘ was featured on USA Networks’ Suits last week — Season 5, Episode 7 “Hitting Home“, and it’s quite heartbreaking. Not surprising really as the song was written about having to pay your debts, not just in the financial sense, but also in the way of working on reconnecting with people when you have been gone for a long time and finally make it back home.

As for Sharon Van Etten, she is an American singer songwriter who got her start in the music business by self-releasing her first few albums. Her first release on a label (Drag City) was in 2009 with her album Because I Was in Love. Since then, she’s released three more albums.

Her latest release was her EP I Don’t Want To Let You Down in early 2015, which includes the lovely ‘Pay My Debts

Van Etten’s songs are typically quite folk sounding, and she tends to use of a lot of harmonies, which make them even more lovely.

NPR has said about her “Van Etten’s way with a melody, and her remarkable voice, can make these stories seem epic, almost mythical. But they all center on the kind of tough, essential, everyday dilemmas that are the heart of living a satisfying life, the same ones that break your heart the hardest.”

Listen to ‘Pay My Debts‘ below to see what they mean. You can buy her EP I Don’t Want To Let You Down on all major digital music platforms.
