Well, this is a surprise. The Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain has not released any new music since their 1998 album Munki — well, other than their 2008 boxed set The Power of Negative Thinking: B-Sides & Rarities, which included some cool unreleased B-sides — but they have just released a new single this week.

A single from an upcoming brand new album that is due to be come out on March 24th, 2017.

The new The Jesus and Mary Chain single is called ‘Amputation‘, and it’s from an album to be called Damage and Joy. It will be the seventh studio album for the indie band, has been in production since 2015, and will be released on the new Creation Management label.

Damage and Joy will be a 14-track album and, if ‘Amputation‘ is anything to go by, it is definitely going to be classic The Jesus and Mary Chain, which makes this a very good time to say “Hallelujah”.

The album is being produced by Youth, aka Killing Joke’s bassist Martin Glover.

As for the band, they will be kicking off a Damage and Joy Concert Tour around the UK starting in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne on March 23rd, 2017. You can get tickets on the band’s website.

Listen to The Jesus and Mary Chain’s ‘Amputation‘ below. Now isn’t that a nice start to your Friday?

You can pre-order Damage and Joy on most major music sites.
