The Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rapper’s Delight’ was rap song played on 9-1-1, Season 5, Ep. 8

American hip hop group The Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rapper’s Delight‘ was played on the Fox procedural drama 9-1-1 this week — 9-1-1, Season 5, Episode 8, “Defend in Place“.

The track was heard as David is beginning to operate.

The Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rapper’s Delight‘ was released in early 1980, and was the first rap song to become a major hit in the United States placing it in the music history record books.

It is also a rap track that, even if you know nothing about rap music, you will have heard 1,000 times as it really is that well known.

Unfortunately for The Sugarhill Gang, however, the success of the song also made them a one-hit-wonder in the U.S., where they were never able to create similar success with other releases.

A shame as the rap group released other cool tracks that just didn’t get the traction ‘Rapper’s Delight‘ did.

The Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rapper’s Delight‘ was re-recorded by the group in 1999, many years after they had broken up and gone their separate ways.

This time it was for a hip hop children’s album.

Listen to The Sugarhill Gang’s ‘Rapper’s Delight‘ as heard on last night’s 9-1-1 down below.

There is also an official music video for the song that features a cool live performance the group that is worth a watch down there too.
