Swedish singer songwriter Tove Styrke has released her sophomore album. Called ‘Kiddo‘, it’s a far cry from her debut album which, quite frankly, was terrible. In fact, ‘Kiddo‘ is pretty much one of the best pop albums to come out of Sweden in years.
Tove has changed too. No longer does she have the bleached blonde hair and too-old-for-her look. Nowadays, she’s all natural, wearing baggy clothes, and looks like she’s more all about comfort than setting off someone’s lust. Praise all things holy.
As for the tracks on Styrke’s ‘Kiddo‘, musically most of them have an amazing global feel to them, with a mix of influences from all over the place. And the lyrics? In them, Tove is smart, sarcastic, obnoxious and fascinating, and definitely has something worthwhile to say.
My favorite track? ‘Even If I’m Loud It Doesn’t Mean I’m Talking To You‘, which is a fabulous indictment of the male-dominated music industry, and a pointed reminder many female singers create more amazing music than half the men in it. And it’s about time they were taken seriously.
