According to the latest numbers from Netflix, the Korean slice-of-life rom-com drama True Beauty is #7 on the streaming platform’s Most-Watched Non-English TV Shows chart for the period of December 18th to December 24th, 2023.
The drama was originally released on tvN in South Korea in late 2020, then via Viki and Amazon Prime internationally, before Netflix scooped it up for viewing in 2023.
Since its release earlier in the year in select regions, True Beauty has been viewed more than 2.4 million times for a total number of hours viewed of 47.1 million.
Along with being #7 on the Netflix Most-Watched chart, True Beauty is also in the Top 10 on the streaming platform in 19 countries including Argentina, Honduras, Mexico, Peru and Turkey.
Not bad for a drama that had already been watched by a huge number of K-drama fans before it ever even hit Netflix, eh?
What is True Beauty about?
Just in case you are one of the K-drama fans who has not yet watched True Beauty, the drama is directed by Kim Sang Hyub (Extraordinary You)Â and written by Lee Shi Eun (Top Star Yoo Baek).
It stars Moon Ga Young, Cha Eun Woo, Hwang In Youp, and Park Yoo Na.
True Beauty tells the story of Lim Ju Kyung (played by Moon Ga Young), a high school student who has been so self-conscious about her looks she has perfected make-up in such a way that everyone around her thinks she is a “natural beauty”.
The romance part comes in with friend and love interest Lee Su Ho (Cha Eun Woo). The only boy who has ever seen her without make-up.
All 16 episodes are now streaming on Netflix in some regions.
