The phenomenal gospel and soul singer Leon Bridges was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Friday night (December 18th, 2015), where he sang two songs — Sam Cooke’s ‘Jesus Gave Me Water’ for the televised part of the show, and an extra song ‘Twistin’ and Groovin” for the Internet audience.
And, as is always the case with Leon Bridges, his performances of both songs were just about perfection.
Leon Bridges soulful version of ‘Jesus Gave Me Water’ was with just a saxophone and a tambourine, which allowed the rich voices of both Bridges and his backing singer to provide most of the music of the song.
With ‘Twistin’ and Groovin‘, however, he added a full back up band, but was still just as mellow, smooth and rich in his delivery as if he didn’t have them at all.
‘Twistin’ and Groovin’ is from Bridges debut and Grammy-nominated album Coming Home.
He is currently in the midst of an Australian tour. You can check out all his tour dates on his website.
