If you enjoy a good live country music performance, you will love watching Margo Price‘s performance of her single ‘Hurtin’ (On The Bottle)‘ on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert this week. ‘Hurtin’ (On The Bottle)‘ is from Margo’s debut album Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, to be released in March. And, yes, she definitely sounds like Loretta Lynn.
Margo Price herself is pretty new on the national country music scene, although she has made quite a name for herself in her hometown of Nashville, Tennessee in the last few years. Her performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was her national TV debut, and she certainly didn’t make any attempt to tone down her down home ‘twang’ when she got there, which I loved.
Price’s album Midwest Farmer’s Daughter will be released on Jack White’s Third Man Records on March 25th. The singer went with them because, as she told Rolling Stone Country, “They were the first people who didn’t want to change the album”.
I’d say it is a good thing she did.
You can currently pre-order Midwest Farmer’s Daughter on all major music sites.
Update: As Margo Price’s performance on Colbert has been deleted from his YouTube channel, I am substituting her similarly superb performance of the song on Saturday Night Live in the video instead. Enjoy!
