Singer-songwriter Maxwell hasn’t been around much in the U.S. music scene, at least not when it comes to performing. Not since the release of his last album back in 2009, and then a subsequent short concert tour that was canceled due to vocal hemorrhaging.
Maxwell was back with a vengeance this week, though, when he appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to sing his new single ‘Lake By The Ocean‘. The first new material he has released in seven years.
The track is from his upcoming new album blackSUMMERS’night, originally slated for release in 2012, but now due to be released later on this year.
As for Maxwell’s performance of ‘Lake By The Ocean‘ on Colbert this week, it definitely showed he’s still got what it takes. Smooth and cool, a gorgeous performance, and a beautiful song. And look at that knockout smile at the end of it. Watch him in the video below.
You can pick up his new single on all digital music platforms.
Edited: Sadly, Colbert has deleted Maxwell’s performance from his YouTube channel, so I’ve substituted an equally fabulous one from Maxwell’s live performance of the song on ‘Good Morning America’. Enjoy.
