Yesterday was Halloween.
It was also the day Austrian singer Conchita Wurst shaved her beard off. Because, yes, most years at Halloween it seems, Conchita Wurst decides her costume will be sans beard, and this year was no exception.
And, no, I’m not even going to try to guess who Conchita decided to dress as this year in her short grey wig, fake wrinkles, shiny top and massive glasses, as I guarantee, with what goes on in that girl’s head, I’ll be wrong.
But what I will say is the second I saw this photograph on Conchita’s Instagram account a few hours ago, one thing jumped out at me immediately.
Because I don’t see Conchita Wurst in this photograph hardly at all. But I do see Tom Neuwirth.
But not the Tom Neuwirth that hides himself away today under baseball caps, hooded sweatshirts and, yes, with a beard that makes him look so much older.
But instead the Tom Neuwirth most of us know from Starmania. The 18-year-old Tom with the beautifully angelic face, and those oh so soulful and sad eyes.
Because this woman, the one Conchita Wurst decided to become yesterday, she has that same look. The look that used to flicker across his face. The one that always made you want to hug him.
And me? I love this Halloween photo Conchita Wurst shared with us yesterday, as it shows just how fun she is and, oh, how much she adores drama.
But, the beard? I love that even more.
As for Conchita Wurst herself, don’t expect her to be around for the next week or so, as that’s about how long it takes to grow that gorgeous beard back.
Just in time for her to head back down under for her next trip to Australia and the Feast Festival.
