Korea-Khitan War, Episode 32 ratings end the KBS2 historical drama as it should end — hugely successful

I have to say I am absolutely thrilled to see the series finale of Korea-Khitan War ended the Korean drama’s 32-episode run with the highest ratings of its entire run on Sunday night.

Both nationally and in Seoul.

That Korea-Khitan War, Episode 32 rating nationwide was 13.8 percent –– which was almost a full percentage point higher than the previous all-time high rating the K-drama earned for Episode 30, and a far cry from the 5.5 percent it earned for its first episode way back on November 11th, 2023.

Yep, the superb drama has been running that long but, because every episode has been so gripping, it certainly hasn’t felt like it.

In Seoul, Korea-Khitan War, Episode 32 ratings were also superb, climbing to 12.1 percent last night.

A big jump from Episode 31’s rating of 10.7 percent.

Those huge ratings made the historical drama the 2nd most-watched TV show of all of Sunday nationwide, and the third most-watched in Seoul.

The huge success of Korea-Khitan War

The KBS2 drama was originally produced to help celebrate the KBS network’s 50th anniversary.

It aired every Saturday and Sunday evening from November 11th, 2023 to March 10th, 2024.

The superb Korean drama went on to garner awards at the KBS Drama Awards back in December for Lee Won Jong as Best Supporting Actor, for Ji Seung Hyun with both his Excellence Award, Actor in a Serial Drama and the Popularity Award, Actor award, for Kim Dong Jun for Top Excellence Award, Actor, and for writer Lee Jung Woo with the Scriptwriter Award.

Choi Soo Jong and Kim Dong Jun humorously won the Best Couple Award.

The grand prize for the night, the Daesang, went to actor Choi Soo Jong.

Actors in the historical drama also earned eight other nominations.

Korea-Khitan War was also largely critically acclaimed throughout its run, although the author of the novel it was based on, Gil Seung Soo, was angry about the direction the drama took after Episode 16, saying it was not historically authentic.

With last night’s highly-rated series finale, all 32 episodes of Korea-Khitan War are now available to stream on Viki, where it is currently rated an incredibly high 9.6 out of 10.

Netflix is also streaming the Korean drama in some regions in Asia.
