Listen to Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor’ from Prodigal Son, Season 2, Episode 4

American girl group Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor‘ was one of the songs heard on the new episode of the crime drama Prodigal Son last night — Prodigal Son, Season 2, Episode 4, “Take Your Father to Work Day“, which aired on February 2nd, 2021.

The song was played as we watch Martin going about his daily routine.

Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor‘ was written for and released on the group’s third studio album of the same name. The song was co-written by then group member Beyoncé, Anthony Dent, and Beyoncé’s father and manager Mathew Knowles.

Interestingly,  Beyoncé came up with the idea for the song after a radio station made a nasty ‘joke’ about the girl group after several members had left.

The comment was that being a member of the group was like being on the TV show ‘Survivor‘, where one participant is kicked off every week.

Rather than getting angry, Beyoncé came up with the idea of ‘Survivor‘. A song that became one of the band’s biggest hits, and ultimately won the group a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.

Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor‘ went on to chart in an astounding 22 countries, and hit the #1 spot on five international charts.

It also hit high on six different charts in the United States, making it to #1 on the Billboard Rhythmic chart, and to the top spot in the UK on both the UK Singles chart and the country’s R&B chart.

Listen to Destiny’s Child’s ‘Survivor‘ as heard on Prodigal Son in the song’s official music video, which features the members of the group being washed up on a deserted beach.

A video that also won the group several awards.

You can also hear the song on the band’s 2001 album of the same name in the Spotify player below.
