Listen to Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ from ’13 Reasons Why’, the New Netflix Hit

Listen to Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart‘ from ‘13 Reasons Why

Netflix original series not only have some intriguing storylines, they also often have a superb soundtrack as well.

Take ‘13 Reasons Why‘, one of the latest Netflix series released late last month. That soundtrack is a superb compliment to the story of Hannah, a high school student who, right before killing herself, sends cassette tapes to 13 people most of whom were instrumental in her decision to take her own life.

Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart‘ is one of the songs featured on the first episode of ‘13 Reasons Why‘, and is an especially poignant choice as Ian Curtis, that band’s lead singer, committed suicide at the age of just 23.

‘Love Will Tear Us Apart‘ was also the song in which Curtis expressed how he felt about his failing marriage, and the depression that ultimately led to his suicide in May, 1980.

The song was first released a month after Ian Curtis’s death, and then re-released in 1983 when, what was left of Joy Division, had become New Order.

Listen to ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart‘ in the official video for the song below. A video that shows the band, including Curtis, performing the track in a deserted warehouse.

It’s a sad song that has also become quite iconic when people talk about the best alternative music from the early 1980s. Because this track definitely fit.

You can buy the original version on an EP download currently available on all major music sites that also includes the Martin Hannett Sessions version of the song and a second track ‘Leaders of Men‘.
