Listen to Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License’ from The Summer I Turned Pretty as Belly is crying in her car

The first episode of the new season of The Summer I Turned Pretty is not only fabulous because of the plot — Belly not being able to stand losing the people she loves the most — but also a standout because of the songs played on its soundtrack.

One of the best songs was that absolutely perfect track illustrating the scene in The Summer I Turned Pretty, Season 2, Episode 1 as Belly leaves the party, and is driving home crying in her car.

That melancholic track is Olivia Rodrigo‘s hit song ‘Drivers License‘.

It is a song that not only beautifully illustrates the emotions Belly is feeling as she thinks about having lost three of the most important people in her life — Conrad, Jeremiah and Susannah — but the lyrics of the song were incredibly appropriate too.

And I know we weren’t perfect but I’ve never felt this way for no oneAnd I just can’t imagine how you could be so okay now that I’m goneGuess you didn’t mean what you wrote in that song about me‘Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street

When was Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License‘ released?

The power ballad came out as Rodrigo’s debut single in January, 2021, and as the first single from her first studio album Sour.

It became one of 2021’s biggest-selling and listened to songs, as well as ranked high up charts in over 40 countries, and hit #1 on charts in 25 of those countries.

In the United States, Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License‘ made it to the top spot on three charts — the Billboard Hot 100, on the Adult Top 40 and on the Mainstream Top 40.

Not only was the track critically acclaimed by music critics all over the world, it was also given a Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance.

Not bad for the first official song release of a then just 18-year-old singer, eh?

Listen to Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Drivers License‘ from the latest season of The Summer I Turned Pretty in the song’s very cool music video, and via her Sour album on Spotify, where the song is rapidly heading towards 2 billion streams.
