Listen to The Kinks’ ‘Better Things’ from Sprung, Season 1, Ep. 9, “Chapter Nine-Ten”

English rock band The Kinks’ ‘Better Things‘ was played on the Prime Video offbeat comedy series Sprung this week — Sprung, Season 1, Episode 9, “Chapter Nine-Ten“.

The track was played as Melvin and Jack are setting off for San Diego.

The Kinks’ ‘Better Things‘ was the lead single from the band’s astounding nineteenth studio album Give the People What They Want.

That album came out in 1981.

The song charted in both the UK and the U.S. upon release, making it to #92 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song’s lyrics are sung to someone who has come through bad times and, according to the singer, now has good things to look forward to.

Especially if they decide to be an optimist instead of a pessimist.

Sadly, however, it was actually written about lead guitarist Ray Davies’s then-collapsing marriage, with Davies telling himself he had “better things” to look forward to.

Listen to The Kinks’ ‘Better Things‘ as heard on this week’s episode of Sprung in the video, and on the band’s Give the People What They Want album.
