The Platters ‘Only You‘ was that song playing on Riverdale last night as Archie wakes up after the comet — Riverdale, Season 6, Episode 22, “Chapter One Hundred and Seventeen: Night of the Comet“.
The now classic The Platters ‘Only You‘ was released in 1955 on the Mercury record label. The song was written by Buck Ram, who also wrote many of The Platters’ songs, as well as tracks for luminaries like Ike and Tina Turner and Ella Fitzgerald.
The Platters’ ‘Only You‘ became a big hit for the American vocal group, and was then notably recorded as a cover in later years by iconic artists like Ringo Starr, Brenda Lee, Roy Orbison, Little Richard, Harry Connick Jr. and even Alvin and the Chipmunks.
The Platters’ song hit #1 on the U.S. R & B Chart, and #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It remained on the chart for 30 weeks.
