The melancholic ‘The Good Side‘ is perfect forĀ 13 Reasons Why
Australian singer songwriter Troye Sivan’s ‘The Good Side‘ was one of the stellar tracks featured on the soundtrack of 13 Reasons Why this week — 13 Reasons Why,Ā Season 4, Episode 9, “Prom“.
A melancholic acoustic pop ballad, ‘The Good Side‘ is the second single from Sivan’s sophomore studio album Bloom.Ā It was co-written by Troye Sivan, Bram Inscore, Leland, Allie X, Jam City and Ariel Rechtshaid.
Released in January, 2018 six months before the album, although the track was critically acclaimed, surprisingly it was not a huge hit for the South African-born artist only making it onto the charts in New Zealand and Scotland.
The song was written about Sivan breaking up with an ex-boyfriend and how he felt guilty about it afterwards as he felt he was the one able to experience ‘the good side’ of the break up.
He wrote songs about it, his fans loved them and he went on tour and had a skyrocketing music career. His ex-boyfriend, on the other hand, did not.
A few weeks after its release, Troye Sivan gave a lovely live performance of the track on Saturday Night Live — a performance you can watch below.
