German music project U96’s ‘Heaven‘ was one of the tracks played on The Stand last night — The Stand, Season 1, Episode 8, “The Stand“, an episode that aired on CBS All Access on February 4th, 2021.

The song was played as Lloyd begins to fill the pool with water as Larry and Ray are shackled to the floor of the pool for their execution. It continues as Rat Woman tells the camera crew to show people dancing.

Yep, 1990s dance music accompanying the end of the world.

U96’s ‘Heaven‘ was the lead single from the duo’s Eurodance album of the same name.

Released in 1996, the song features vocals by Dea-Li (aka Dorothy Lapi).

The track was a huge hit in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Norway, Sweden and Finland, where it charted in the Top 10, with its highest climb in Austria to the #2 spot.

Heaven‘ also made it to #87 on the UK Singles chart, and was eventually certified Gold in Germany.

And yes, the song sounds very much like Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Time After Time‘, who also has a writing credit on the song, but a second-rate incredibly bland and uninteresting version. (No, sorry, I don’t like it). (continue reading and listen to U96’s ‘Heaven‘ after the song promo…)

The dance track also spawned a music video.

Directed by Paul Morgans, the video’s visuals are suitably bizarre, with flying gymnasts, a flying submarine and singer Dea-Li floating around mouthing the lyrics.

No, really, not having been in Europe in the mid-1990s, there is nothing I like about this song.

If you do, listen to U96’s ‘Heaven‘ as heard on last night’s The Stand in that official music video.

Me, I’ll give a second listen a miss.
