New Ascendance of a Bookworm cast — Yuko Sanpei, Shō Karino and Chiyo Tomaru

New Ascendance of a Bookworm characters Gil, Fran and Delia

The most pleasant surprise in anime series released in 2019 for me was the isekai anime Ascendance of a Bookworm. A series I was looking forward to long before it aired, but fell in love with so much I watched it through twice.

Now, the second season of Ascendance of a Bookworm has been announced, and today new cast members were named as well.

The three new Ascendance of a Bookworm cast members to be introduced for season 2 so far are Yuko Sanpei, Shō Karino and Chiyo Tomaru.

They will play new characters Gil, Fran and Delia.

Yuko Sanpei has been voicing anime characters for years, and is specifically known for playing Seita in Gintama, Terumi Afuro/Aphrodi in Inazuma Eleven and Hajime Yasaka in Natsu no Arashi! among many other roles.

Shō Karino is newer to anime voice acting than Yuko Sanpei, but has played Udo in Meshimase Lodoss-tō Senki Sorette Oishii no?, as well as several other more minor roles.

Voice actor Chiyo Tomaru is even newer still, with her only main role so far as Noriko Shiina in [email protected] Cinderella Girls Theater.

All three will play characters in Ascendance of a Bookworm that are church members who become Myne’s attendants. All have their own quirky personality traits that should be fun to watch.

Ascendance of a Bookworm Season 2 is being directed by Mitsuru Hongo (Crayon Shin-chan), and is scheduled to premiere in April, 2020.

Prior to that, two OVA episodes will be released in March.

Ascendance of a Bookworm is based on the fantasy book by Miya Kazuk. The 14 episodes of season 1 are now available to stream on Crunchyroll.

And yes, you will see some sites talking about it being a ‘Second Cour’ and not a Season 2. The problem is the same sites are calling it one thing in one article, and the other in another.

I’m calling it Season 2, as I say “pick one”, and I picked that.
