I’ve always been tired of seeing primarily American and British singers topping the charts all over the world, particularly as I’m European and don’t understand why more European singers aren’t supported by the people in their own countries. So, I’m going to be showcasing a lot more European singers on Leo Sigh in the coming months. Singers like the amazing Austrian singer and songwriter, Saint Lu.
Saint Lu (real name Luise Gruber) is a blues rock singer (sort of) who was born in Wels, Austria. She’s a former contestant on ‘Starmania‘, just like Conchita Wurst (*as Tom Neuwirth).
Her first album, ‘Saint Lu‘ was released in 2009. Sadly, even though it was critically acclaimed, it wasn’t supported particularly well by Austrians, only making it to the 30th position on the Austrian album charts before falling back. Her second album “2” released in 2013.
Saint Lu won an EBBA in 2011, and now lives and sings in Berlin, Germany.
As for her vocals, Saint Lu has an incredible voice. Raw, sensual and one of those voices that’s hard-rocking but so emotional it will break your heart. Think a modern-day Janis Joplin, which is who she’s often compared to.
Listen to Saint Lu’s ‘Here I Stand‘, and you’ll see what I mean. Just a beautiful piece of work. Oh, and yep, play it LOUD.
