The ongoing tvN drama The Midnight Romance in Hagwon premiered on May 11th to a very strong rating of 5.1 percent (6.3 in Seoul), then saw its ratings fall for the next two episodes.
By Episode 4, however, The Midnight Romance in Hagwon was back on its way up, and last night proved it again by earning a solid rating on a very crowded Saturday night — with five other dramas airing throughout the evening on TV in South Korea.
According to numbers from Nielsen Korea, The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, Episode 5 grabbed 4.23 percent of the audience, and ended up in the #1 spot in its time slot on cable TV.
The Korean drama performed even better with audiences in Seoul, where it garnered 5.26 percent.
Both ratings were slightly down from the drama’s previous episode but, as it performed better last Sunday than it did the previous Saturday, chances are we will see a higher rating for the show’s sixth episode later on tonight. (Edit: We did!)
A crowded Saturday night
The Midnight Romance in Hagwon has Wi Ha Joon and Jung Ryeo Won in the main lead roles, with a solid supporting cast backing them up.
The Korean drama airs every Saturday and Sunday on tvN at 21:20 (KST), overlapping time with Bitter Sweet Hell on MBC, the SBS drama Connection, and MBN’s Missing Crown Prince.
The Atypical Family and Beauty and Mr. Romantic also air on Saturday evenings.
With that kind of competition then, it is pretty obvious the romance drama is still performing extremely well.
The Midnight Romance in Hagwon, Episode 6 will air later on tonight in South Korea, with Viki streaming it for its international audiences.
