One of the many delights of the ongoing fantasy K-drama Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 is the character of Jang Yeo Hee (played by Woo Hyun Jin) — the mermaid who sings at the club, and who falls in love with Lee Rang (Kim Bum).
During the series, the mermaid sings several songs, most of them targeting Lee Rang as she just loves him so much.
On Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938, Episode 8, however, the song Jang Yeo Hee sings is sung in its entirety.
She begins singing as Lee Rang is sitting in an almost empty club watching her.
The mermaid continues singing as Rang thinks back on the recent weeks with his older brother Lee Yeon (Lee Dong Wook) to all the things that have happened, what his brother said to him, and how he helped him.
He then decides it was due to Lee Yeon feeling guilty because he knows Rang dies in the future because of him, and so leaves the club.
(Yes, Lee Rang’s constant self-pitying attitude is becoming annoying but that is what the screenwriter chose so…)

The song Yeo Hee sings is not sung by Woo Hyun Jin, but is instead sung by South Korean singer and musical actress Kei.
The track is called ‘Wind Song‘ with lyrics that suggest it is Yeo Hee singing to Lee Rang about how much she loves him:

To me, Kei’s ‘Wind Song‘ is the prettiest song featured on Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 so far.
Much of that is to do with the gorgeous melody, but is also how heartfelt and beautiful Kei’s voice is, and how she almost seems to be telling a story as the song progresses.
Especially as she hits that huge high note. A note that almost mimics the mermaid, as Yeo Hee screams so loud she shatters glass and damages the hearing of those she targets.
